According to New Telegraph, the meeting, which lasted over three hours, was also attended by an ex-governor of Osun state and former interim national chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande. The report stated that the meeting was a strategic fence-mending mission ahead of the governorship election in Ondo state tomorrow, November 26. The Ondo governorship campaign rally was boycotted by the APC national leader, Senator Bola Tinubu; Ajimobi, Aregbesola, Akande as well as Lagos state governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, fuelling speculation of growing division within the ranks of the ruling party especially in the South-west.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Akande and Ajimobi debunked any rift among the governors in the South-west. Akande, who maintained that the APC governors and stakeholders remain united, stated that “there is no crisis in the party, we are one.” Responding to a question seeking to know why they were absent at the Ondo APC rally, Ajimobi simply retorted that some of them travelled out of the country. “Some of us were out of the country. I, for example, was in China,” he said. Meanwhile, South-west governors have resolved to forge a common front in order to stave off external influences capable of stifling the region’s economic and social interests.
